Popular Black Lightning actress China Anne McClain announced she’s leaving the show on The CW to pursue the work of God.

“All this is an illusion. It’s an illusion. This industry for what it is and everything people look to and praise, it’s not important,” she said recently in a social media post to fans.

It takes a great deal of courage to make a decision like McClain. It takes even greater courage to leave a paying job for what you know is God’s calling you to do.

“When He calls I’m going to follow. I don’t care where He leads me, I don’t care if it’s in the middle of Timbuktu somewhere living off of a couple of pennies and a dime for the rest of my life with my family doing missionary work … I would leave all of this behind,” she declared while in tears. “I just made it to this point of my life now, during this quarantine.”

She added she is not leaving the show because it was a bad experience.

“I like the CW. I like [CW network president] Mark Pedowitz, I like [Warner Bros. president] Peter Roth, [EP] Greg Berlanti, I love [showrunner] Salim [Akil], I always will. He gets it. And people that actually know me, they know why I make the decisions that I make.”

McClain also went into detail about starting a production company.

“The reason why I started my production company is not to start making moves. I have not played the game well when it comes to the standards of this industry. God is the only reason I am where I am right now, cause He leads me where he wants me to go and I follow Him.”

McClain shared God is bigger than the show and Hollywood. “I’m doing God’s work now and I’m not doing anything else. I’m just gon’ put it plainly.”

The Bible instructed us to walk in “obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.” – Deuteronomy 5:33

We pray for McClain’s continued success in entertainment, and what God called her to pursue.
